I'm a 3rd generation Los Angeles native and grew up in the film industry. My dad was an electrician on dozens of films and TV shows in the late 80's to early 90's, so as a kid I was on set a lot. Behind the scenes was so cool! All of the huge pieces of equipment, lights, cable, and cameras were like the "big kid toys" to me. Everyone was working but having a great time while doing it. There was food everywhere, actors, directors all moving towards the same goal - it was an amazing sight for me to see as a child. I knew I had to be a part of it when I grew up.
At school I learned the ins and outs of visual effects from industry professionals, people who I respected and looked up to in the visual effects world. Along the way, I learned how much photography is part of visual effects from textures, to matte paintings, to panoramic photos, HDR's etc.. I had always loved being behind the camera, but this catapulted me into the world of still photography. The more I learned about the technical aspects of operating a camera and composition, the more I fell in love with photography.
Growing up with films like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Terminator, and Aliens, I was now in a position to be a part of future visual masterpieces and stories. I started working full time at Giant Studios on Avatar and several other films. I had AMAZING experiences being involved on such big projects. In the midst of the films, I was shooting my heart away at anything and everything I could. I took my camera with me everywhere - refining my eye, skills, composition, and understanding of light. Learning and watching the big directors frame out a shot helped quite a bit as well, while inspiring me to further pursue my career in motion and still pictures.
This leads me to today. The past year and a half I've been living in New Zealand while working for Weta Digital. The Hobbit 2 & 3, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes have been 2 franchises I couldn't be more thrilled to have been a part of. I've been fortunate enough to have this opportunity to live out my dreams and at the same time live in an incredible country. I hope to continue working at Weta and make New Zealand my home, while I pursue my other goals and passions in life.
